Halifax Women's Network Mission:

Since 1980, the Halifax Women's Network has been providing opportunities for professional women to enhance their careers, increase their contacts, create a positive image, and strengthen their links to the community.

YOU CLIMB A MOUNTAIN ONE STEP AT A TIME

Everyone who got where they are…had to begin where they were.

Your opportunity for success is right in front of you.

To attain success or to reach your goal, don't worry about having all the answers in advance.

You just need to have a clear idea of your goal and move toward it.

Don't procrastinate when faced with a difficult problem.

Break your problems into parts and handle one part at a time.

Develop a tendency toward action.  You can make something happen today.

Break your big plan for success into small steps and take the first step right away.

Success starts with a first step.

Todd DeWolf is a Fitness Professional with over 7 years experience working with individuals, groups and businesses.  He is the “Why Guy” when it comes to fitness success.

The main focus of his business is ensuring fitness success.  We very often leave ourselves out of the equation when it comes to health.  Our business and family health has been put ahead of our own.  I ask this then:  If you are not healthy, how do you plan to be the energetic, fit and positive role model you want your family or business to emulate?

Health is much easier than we have been led to believe.

Todd has been hired to be the fitness expert for Eating Disorder Clinics in Ontario and Nova Scotia and as a Mental Skills Coach for Dalhousie Varsity Men’s Soccer.  Local elite teams like the Halifax Mooseheads and Thunder Selects Basketball team for girls have hired him for metabolic testing and nutritional consulting.  Recently, Todd added Youth Fitness Specialist to his toolbox.  The only one in Nova Scotia to date.

Currently, Todd has two fitness “success” groups in HRM and is continuing to build a devoted support base for his clients.

Barb Stegemann

Business woman, newspaper columnist, and author, Barb Stegemann has been delivering talks on economic development to business audiences for years.  Ranked by The Chronicle Herald newspaper as one of eight people to watch in 2008 in taking the province of Nova Scotia forward, Barb has embarked on a speaking tour that empowers women in their own communities to connect with their voting and buying power.

Her first book, The 7 Virtues of a Philosopher Queen launched on International Women’s Day and sold out in the first three weeks.  She is booked on a speaking tour across Canada and donates 40 per cent of book sales to the cause when working with non-profits in air of raising money to support women in need.  The title of the book is a play off of the Philosopher in Plato’s Republic and she brings the wisdom of stoic leadership to the every day woman with a clear goal to narrow the gap between rich and poor through empowerment.

This book is much like Barb herself. It serves as a powerful touchstone that gently yet irrevocably, forces you to look inward. And with that introspection comes an unavoidable awareness that each of us is a potential agent of change.

-          Dawn Chafe, Editor, Atlantic Business Magazine, St. John’s

Readers looking for a path to a brighter future for themselves and their community will find The 7 Virtues of a Philosopher Queen a compass on which they can depend.
